Hey, iPhone fans! Are you ready for some exciting news? Apple is working on iOS 17, the next big update for your favorite device. It’s going to make your iPhone even better, with new features and improvements. Want to know more? Keep reading!
When can I get it?
iOS 17 will probably come out in September 2023, around the same time as the iPhone 15. But before that, Apple will show off iOS 17 at WWDC (World Wide Developer’s Conference) in June. WWDC 2023 is happening on June 5, and it’s going to be awesome. Apple will also talk about the latest stuff for iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS .
After WWDC, Apple will let some people try out iOS 17 before everyone else. There will be two versions: one for developers and one for the public. The public version is usually good enough to use on your main phone after a month or two. So if you’re feeling adventurous, you can sign up for the public beta and get a sneak peek at iOS 17.
Will it work on my iPhone?
The iPhone X might not get iOS 17
Well, that depends on how old your iPhone is. We’ve heard some rumors that iOS 17 will not work on some older models, like the iPhone 8 , iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X . They also say that iPadOS 17 will not work on some older iPads, like the first-generation iPad Pro and the fifth-generation iPad . These devices came out between 2015 and 2017.
If these rumors are true, it means that Apple is cutting off support for most devices that have the A11 Bionic chip or older. The only exceptions would be the sixth- and seventh-generation iPad and the second-generation iPad Pro .
Our best guess is that you’ll need an iPhone XS or newer to run iOS 17 . The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, and the iPhone X which came out the same year, are kind of in the gray zone .
What’s new?
Apple usually keeps its cards close to its chest when it comes to new features, but we’ve managed to find out some juicy details from some leaks and rumors.
One of the cool things we’ve heard is that the lock screen will have a new “live activity” feature when you’re using Maps. It will show you the time and your notifications while you’re following directions . That way, you don’t have to unlock your phone every time you want to check something.
Another thing we’ve heard is that some of Apple’s apps will get some upgrades with iOS 17. Wallet could let you store more types of cards and documents, like driver’s licenses and passports . Health could track more things about your body and well-being, like blood pressure, hydration levels and sleep patterns .
We’ve also seen some mockups of how these features could look like , but they’re not official or confirmed by Apple.
Of course, we also have our own wishlist of what we’d love to see in iOS 17, like better widgets, more customization options, smarter Siri and Face ID, and more. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more about iOS 17, so stay tuned!
